Hi, my name is Rachel Wermager and I am a senior magazine journalism and English double major at Drake University. At Drake I am a senior editor for the The Annual, a magazine created by students each year. My experience outside of campus activities include formerly working at Meredith Corporation as Copy Flow Coordinator, and currently working as the Communications Intern with AARP of Iowa.
I am highly interested in writing or editing as a career; my goal with my writing is to tell the stories of those that would otherwise be left untold. What I bring to the table is great people skills—I am slightly introverted but that does not stop me from working well with others. I am very good at making tough decisions and I often become passionate about my work, along with those I work with and work for.
I am originally from Rockford, Illinois but I transitioned to Des Moines, Iowa to attend Drake. I have always felt most comfortable and confident when it came to reading and writing, so picking my major and career path was an easy choice. I like the idea of writing something that makes a difference, albeit large or small, in the lives of others. I find I am driven by the things I care about most and have always had the desire to make an impact with the life I’ve been given; I want to leave my mark on those I encounter throughout life.
Something important to me and the way I live my life is that I look back with no regrets. My favorite quote says just that: “When you look back on life you will only regret the things you didn’t do, not the things you did.”
